The last services from London St Pancras will run at 18.00 to Corby, 18.25 to Sheffield, 19.30 to Nottingham and 19.55 to Derby and Leicester.

Tuesday 27 December – Friday 30 December

A normal service will operate on these days, with the exception of the following services, which will not run:

  • 05:57 Sheffield to London St Pancras
  • 07:26 Derby to London St Pancras
  • 17.45 London St Pancras to Derby.

On Tuesday 27 December, the 05:45 and 06:37 London to Sheffield services will only run between Derby and Sheffield. The 04:44 from Leicester to London, and the 00:15 from London St Pancras to Sheffield will also not operate on this day.

New Year’s Eve (Saturday 31 December) – Monday 2 January 2012

From approximately 18:00 on Saturday 31 December to Monday 2 January, Network Rail will be carrying out essential engineering works in the Leicestershire area. This means that no direct services will run to London.

Services during this period will operate between London and Bedford, and between East Midlands Parkway and Sheffield, calling at Derby and Chesterfield.

A service will also run between East Midlands Parkway and Nottingham. Rail replacement buses will run between Bedford and East Midlands Parkway.

Passengers travelling between Sheffield and London are advised to use East Coast services from Doncaster to London Kings Cross.

Tuesday 3 January 2012

A normal service will operate from 04:40 onwards.

David Horne, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said:

“We are working closely with Network Rail to minimise the disruption our customers will face as a result of the engineering work being carried out over the New Year.

“Our focus throughout the festive period is to provide the best possible services to passengers, and accurate information concerning the changes we have made.”

Martin Frobisher, route managing director for Network Rail, said:

“Passengers who buy a rail ticket have the right to expect to travel by rail so we are very pleased that, working in partnership with East Midlands Trains, the overall effect on passengers of our improvement work is much lower than in previous years.

“The work at New Year is to move control of the railway around Leicester into our state of the art centre at Derby.

“It is the first phase of a multi-million pound project which will provide passengers with a more reliable and efficient railway around Leicester.

“Around the network passengers will see more trains, fewer buses and a better service this Christmas holiday period as our vital improvement work uses new techniques and equipment that reduces the impact on train services.

“We are investing heavily to building a bigger, better railway and to support economic growth throughout the East Midlands.”
