Union Pacific Railroad’s infrastructure in San Antonio, Texas, will continue to be improved after the freight operator invested $4 million in one of two rail lines that run alongside Frio City Road.
Union Pacific will be installing a new automated system which will allow crews to move trains onto separate tracks ‘without leaving their locomotive cabs to manually align track signals’.
A new section of track will also be added to connect the rail line from Brazos Street to Cumberland Boulevard.
“I am pleased to see Union Pacific make this significant investment to enhance its operations in San Antonio,” said District 5 Council Member David Medina.
“These improvements will help decrease wait times for drivers and benefit the entire community.”
The work is scheduled to be completed by July of 2012.
Should not “manually align track signals” read “manually align track switches” ?Â
