Metro has begun the year on a solid footing by ‘exceeding performance targets for the eighth consecutive month’, Metro said.

The number of trains running on time in January was 90.13 per cent and the number of services delivered was 98.06 per cent.

Metro Corporate Relations general manager Leah Waymark says it’s a positive start to the year.

“We put a lot of work into ensuring the network was ready for summer,” says Ms Waymark.

“It was the hottest start to a year in Melbourne since 2008 and we only had one significant heat-related incident.

“Investment in the track, power and signalling, as well as trains, and upgrades to air-conditioning units, have all contributed to a more reliable service and a more comfortable summer for our customers.”

Ms Waymark says February could present similar challenges.

“It’s forecast to be an even hotter month, but we’re confident that our preparations will continue to pay off,” says Ms Waymark.

“After exceeding our on-time performance targets for eight months in a row, we’re looking forward to achieving even better results this year.”
