The president of Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin, recently opened the new airport terminal rail link serving Sochi Airport.

The intermodal rail connection in Sochi is the first regional project to be completed in time for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The new 2.8 km long rail line connects Adler with the airport and has 2 tunnels, 3 overpasses and a bridge over the Bolshaya Khirota river.

The route is operated by Aeroexpress and has ED4M trains running along it, designed by the Demikhovsky Engineering Plant.

New Desiro (Swallow) trains will ‘appear in 2014’, Russian Railways said.

It is estimated that 60% of passengers who fly into Sochi Airport during the Games in Sochi will use the line.
