Indian Railways has unveiled plans to install integrated security systems at over 200 stations across the country as part of a bid to improve security.
More than 76 stations will have their dedicated security systems by the end of this month and other stations will get the systems by 2013.
At ‘important’ stations, passengers will be screened by a handheld metal detector or walk-through detectors.
For baggage screening, large size X-Ray machines will be put in place. There will also be bomb detection & disposal systems at some stations.
The new security systems will have dedicated control rooms for 24 hour CCTV monitoring, which will cover the entire station premises.
An automatic vehicle scanner will also be provided at entry gates, along with a barbed wire fence surrounding the station.
Trained Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will also be involved to ensure proper functioning of the integrated security system.
