Brookfield Rail has confirmed that a man has suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a QR National freight train travelling on Brookfield Rail’s rail freight network in Bellevue, Western Australia.

The incident occurred just before 12:30pm on Sunday 6th May just east of the Great Eastern Highway overpass in Bellevue. It is believed the man had been trespassing in the rail corridor.

Police and emergency services were in attendance and the incident is currently under investigation.

Brookfield Rail CEO, Paul Larsen said:

“On behalf of Brookfield Rail, I extend our sincere condolences to family and friends of the deceased.

“This is a tragic accident and is a sombre reminder of the importance of adhering to the law, staying off the tracks and only using approved railway crossings.”

Brookfield Rail said trespassing ‘is a nationwide problem and, through the Australasian Rail Association’s trackSAFE Foundation, the rail industry is working in partnership towards educating the community and reducing the number of people trespassing on train tracks and rail property’.
