C2c has set a new UK record for train punctuality in the past year, with 97.1 per cent of services arriving at stations on time.

Figures released today by Network Rail showed that the National Express train operator also set a new monthly record after achieving a punctuality figure of 97.2 per cent through June and July.

C2c managing director Julian Drury said: “C2c is now taking thousands of passengers to the Games every day on a record-breaking train service.

“We’re continuing to set the pace for train companies in the UK, and I’m proud c2c is consistently finishing top of the podium.”

Last month’s figures showed East Coast services rose from 81.9 per cent last year to 84.9 per cent despite delays caused by flooding and landslips.

Virgin Trains saw punctuality fall slightly to 86.5 per cent, with Greater Anglia services, which were operated by National Express East Anglia until February this year, experiencing a four per cent increase to 94.5 per cent.

The PPM (public performance measure), recognises trains as arriving on time if they pull up at their destinations within five minutes for commuter services and within 10 minutes for long-distance services, recorded a national moving average of 91.6 per cent.

Conversely, the national right time performance data, which measures the percentage of trains arriving early or within 59 seconds of schedule, put the figure at just 69.6 per cent.

  1. Because, every time a train is running late they cancel it.
A train that has been cancelled is not classed as running late!
