New York’s transport authority has spent the weekend repairing a section of track which was damaged after two trains collided in Connecticut.
More than 70 people are believed to have been injured, some critically, when an eastbound Metro North train derailed and struck a westbound train at 18.10 on May 17.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority – which managers railway infrastructure around the New York area – has begun repairing the line following on-scene investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Two sections of damaged track have been removed and sent for analysis, with further repairs being carried out to overhead power lines, signals and clearing debris.
