Sweden’s rail infrastructure manager, Trafikverket, has handed Strukton Rail an 80 million euro maintenance contract for the northern section of Södra stambanan (Southern Main Line).

Strukton Rail will take responsibility of the 680 kilometre route for five years from May 2014, with an option to extend for a further two years.

The line links Stockholm in the north of the country with Malmö in the south and plays an important role in Sweden’s wider European rail links.

Strukton Rail will soon maintain the entire Southern Main Line, having already won the maintenance contract for the 430 kilometre southern section.

Lars Schyllander, regional manager at Strukton Rail, said: “We’re already responsible for maintenance work on this line, but this new contract means we’ll be responsible for an even larger area, with more maintenance tasks.

“The opportunity to work on one of the busiest tracks in Sweden is a very exciting challenge.”
