Three key principles of any successful modern railway – safety, sustainability and security – form the basis of a Westermo-sponsored industry seminar to be held at the end of this month.

Following on from the success of Robust Data Communications Solutions for the Rail Industry in 2011 and Deliverin3S Flyer Agendag Projects through Partnerships in 2012, Westermo are hosting the 3S – Sustainability, Safety & Security on October 30.

The free event, which last year explored the world of BS11000, will this year include speakers from Atkins, Network Rail and Thales.

Conor Linnell, programme manager, Atkins Rail business, will talk about the sustainable benefits of plug and play – an innovation that will bring much of the potentially hazardous process of installing lineside cabling into a safe factory environment.

Kevin Stringer, consultant for Firstco, will discuss wireless distant signal application.

Firstco is involved in ‘Cooling the Tube’ at Green Park and Oxford Circus – a project, which has involved drilling a series of wells deep below Green Park to utilise natural springs to sustainably cool Victoria and Piccadilly line platforms.

Other speakers will include Peter Armstrong, director of cyber security at Thales UK, and Ken Vine from Network Rail’s modular team.

3S – Sustainability, Safety & Security will be held on October 30 at The Science Museum in Kensington, London.

With only 100 places available, delegates must register here to confirm their place.
