Italian freight operator Compagnia Ferroviaria Italiana (CFI) has placed an order for two Vectron DC locomotives from Siemens.

The order represents the first order from Italy for a Vectron with a shunting module, which allows the locomotive to run on non-electrified sections of the network.

The vehicles will be built at the Siemens plant in Munich-Allach and delivered in the second half of 2014.

Siemens has sold 130 Vectron locomotives worldwide. Finnish rail operator VR has placed the biggest order so far, committing to 80 AC units.
