China’s first Flexity-inspired tram has been built by CSR Puzhen for the Chinese city of Suzhou.

CSR Puzhen is producing 18 five-car, low-floor trams for the city under a 10-year licensing agreement with Bombardier.

The trams, which are based on the Flexity 2 – the same model that is in operation in Blackpool, UK, have been fitted with Bombardier Flexx Urban 3000 bogies and the Mitrac propulsion system.

Jianwei Zhang, president of Bombardier China, said: “We are proud to be part of this milestone and look forward to seeing Suzhou become a benchmark in modern tramway operation in China.

“As the world market leader in trams, Bombardier is the ideal partner to introduce this technology in China successfully.”

Suzhou New District Tram Co., Ltd. (SND) will operate the trams within the Suzhou new and a high-tech industrial satellite city within Suzhou municipality.
