Palermo’s first new Flexity tram entered service this week, completing an inaugural ride from he Roccella depot to Scaffa Square.

The Mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando, and Luigi Corradi, managing director of Bombardier Transportation Italy, attended the launch event on July 14.

AMAT, the public transport authority of Palermo,  has ordered 17 Flexity Outlook trams for the city’s new 15-kilometre light rail system.

The 32-metre long trams have a maximum speed of 70 km/h and a combined capacity for 188 passengers.

Corradi said: “I thank Mayor Orlando for this special occasion on this important festive day.

“We are proud of our Flexity trams, which will provide a safe, faster and more comfortable service for Palermo.”
