Officials from India and China have signed an agreement in Delhi which will see the two countries working together on a series of railway projects in the country.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Action Plan, which were signed on September 18, cover both railway engineering and training programmes.

China will offer its knowledge of high-speed rail design and construction to help conduct feasibility studies on possible high-speed corridors in India and deliver a project to raise the line speed of a section of railway between Chennai, Bangalore and Mysore to 160 km/h.

The two countries will also work together to develop a heavy haul freight training programme and establish a railway university in the country.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and China’s president, China, Xi Jinping.
