The first rail freight service between China and Spain has completed its 13,000-kilometre journey.
Named Yixinou, the 1,400-tonne train set off from Yiwu on China’s east coast on November 18, arriving 21 days later at Adif’s Abroñigal in Madrid met by Spain’s Minister of Development, Ana Pastor.
As well as China and Spain, the train, which was operated by InterRail Services (IRS) and DB Schenker Rail, has travelled through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany and France.
A regular bi-directional service between Spain and China could be established if this trial service is deemed successful.
Throughout the 21 days, the train needed to change locomotive a number of times as well a undergoing gauge changes.
