Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Italiane) will begin operating high-speed Frecciargento rail services from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci -Fiumicino International Airport to several major Italian cities later this month.
From December 14, the Italian state-owned company will operate two services a day from the airport to Venice, Padua, Bologna, Florence and Rome.
In August, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and FS Italian signed an agreement to link three Italian airports – Leonardo da Vinci, Milano Malpensa Airport and Venice Marco Polo Airport – to the national Alta Velocità (high-speed) rail network.
By the end of the year, Italy’s rail infrastructure manager, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), is also expected to submit a feasibility study for works to upgrade the infrastructure connecting Leonardo da Vinci.
