The first two new 114 series trains have entered service on line L7 of the Barcelona Metro network.

Current Minister of Planning and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia Santi Vila and the president of operator Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) Henry Ticó attended the launch ceremony of the first two of five new trains being supplied by an Alstom-CAF consortium.

The remaining three-car trains will enter service over the coming weeks following a trial operation period.

With a maximum speed of 90 km/h, the new trains will add to 19 113 series units already transporting passengers on Metro del Vallès. Rolling stock is gradually being modernised on the Barcelona-Vallès line with the replacement of the 111 series trains, which have been in use since 1983.

One 111 series vehicle will be retained as a heritage unit and the public will have the opportunity to buy parts from some of the other trains on auction site eBay.
