Tampere city council has published a list of four consortia which have prequalified for the competition to build the city’s planned tram link.

Phase one of the €250 million project will link the city centre with the suburb of Hervanta. The plan is then to extend it by 2022 to Tampere’s central hospital and the Lentävänniemi suburb.

Prequalified consortia include:

  • Lemminkäinen, Ramboll, Alstom and Insinöörit Suunnittelu;
  • Gulermak;
  • Destia, Siemens and Sito;
  • VR Track, YIT and Pöyry.

Around 40,000 passengers are expected to use the new 23.5-kilometre line once open in 2018/19.

The system will be served by a combination of 30-metre and 40-metre bi-directional trams for which the tender was issued earlier this month.
