WSP and Ramboll to design Helsinki-Espoo light rail line

Listen to this article

WSP and Ramboll are to draw up detailed plans for a new dual-track light railway linking Helsinki and Espoo.

The 25-kilometre system will connect the Itäkeskus district in Helsinki and Keilaniemi in Espoo, partially replacing the existing bus service between the city.

Around 100,000 are forecast to use the proposed Raide-Jokeri light rail line each day by 2040 compared to the 30,000 that travel by bus.

WSP and Ramboll will provide analysis on feasibility and cost for the €280 million project, which includes 32 stops and a new maintenance depot.

The line is set to open in the early 2020s.
