Japanese train designer Kenji Ekuan, chairman of GK Design Group, has died aged 85.
Among his notable design work, Ekuan was responsible for the E3 Series Shinkansen and more recently the Narita Express E259.
Ekuan, a former Buddhist monk, passed away in hospital on February 8 of sick sinus syndrome – a heart rhythm disorder.
Born in Tokyo in 1929, Ekuan graduated from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1955 and established GK Industrial Design Associates two years later.
