BNSF has committed $223 million from its record 2015 capital investment programme to capacity improvement projects and maintenance in Texas.

The maintenance programme in the state will include around 3,300 kilometres of track surfacing and almost 100 kilometres of track renewals. The investment also includes the overlay of positive train control (PTC).

In 2015, BNSF is spending $6 billion on infrastructure maintenance and enhancements – the largest capital expenditure programme in the company’s history.

Keary Walls, BNSF general manager operations Texas Division, said: “This year’s substantial investments in Texas are a clear reflection of how important our operations in the state are to our overall network and our unwavering commitment to always operating safely – for our people and the communities in which we operate.”
