DSB has agreed a new 10-year traffic contract with the Danish government which includes plans to begin the procurement of new electric trains.
In particular, the agreement will put more pressure on DSB to operate more punctual, reliable services. Regional services will now be classed as being delayed if they arrive three minutes late rather than the current six minutes.
Cancelled trains will now be counted as a delay and a busy train will be classed as being more serious than one with fewer passengers.
With passenger numbers expected to increase by 25 per cent, the agreement will require DSB to operate 10 per cent more train kilometres, including more international services between Copenhagen and Aarhus.
DSB chairman Peter Schütze said the new contract was the result of a “long and laborious process”. He added: “DSB [will] provide more train seats to the Danes for the same money.”
The traffic contract will also see DSB begin preparatory work for the procurement of new electric rolling stock.
