CILT(UK) names TfL Commisioner Peter Hendy CBE as President Elect

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport’s President, Sir Moir Lockhead OBE FCILT, announced today that Peter Hendy CBE, Commissioner, Transport for London, has been nominated President Elect of the Institute. He will take over the role of President from Sir Moir on 20th May 2011.

Peter was appointed Commissioner in 2006, having previously served as TfL’s Managing Director of Surface Transport.

Peter is a Fellow of the Institute and has been a Vice President since 2008. Until last year Peter was Chair of the Commission for Integrated Transport, and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Highways & Transportation.

Sir Moir Lockhead commented: ‘Peter Hendy is a past winner of the Institute’s annual Sir Robert Lawrence Award for an individual who has made a sustained contribution to logistics and transport, and I am extremely pleased that the presidency will be in such excellent hands when I leave the role. I know that the vision for the future of passenger transport developed during my Presidency is fully shared by Peter and that he will continue and develop this work, bringing his unique blend of experience and enthusiasm.’

Peter Hendy added: ‘I am delighted and honoured to have been been nominated as President Elect of the Institute. Sir Moir Lockhead is a hard act to follow and I will work with him to ensure a smooth transition. As a member of CILT for many years, I am looking forward to ensuring that the Institute remains at the forefront of passenger transport development, and helping to shape and develop the Institute’s vision for the next 25 years.’
