Belarus government approve plans to update network

The government in Belarus have approved a plan to update the country’s network and stations. The railway operator BC will be overseeing the project, which started in 2010, and should last until 2015. BC announced that this project remains a priority and that the project includes electrification works and the acquisition of new rolling stock.  The company plan to refurbish infrastructure and stations in order to keep up with passenger demands and expectations. The work has already begun on a few stations including Vitebsk and Lida Khoiniki.

One of the main areas to receive attention is the Minsk junction which is the hub of national passenger transport. The efforts to update the platform and concourse is set to be complete in late 2011 and will increase passenger capacity within the station. The project aims to create a modern, efficient network to accommodate the expected rise in passengers using public transport.
