Railway management, safety and engineering consultancy NTTX is delighted to welcome Robin Stokes to head up its new signalling training arm. The Congleton, Cheshire-based company will be running courses in Basic Signalling Appreciation and Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Signalling Design at locations across the country from February.

Ian Dear, NTTX managing director, commented: “We are thrilled that Robin, who is hugely respected within the industry, will be working with us to further strengthen our rapidly-growing signalling design business.”

Robin, who is senior lecturer in signalling design at Sheffield Hallam University, has been a key figure in signalling training in the UK for 21 years. He began his career at the British Rail School of Engineering in Derby, teaching most of the signalling courses on offer, but specialising in electronic signalling systems and signalling design. He was ultimately promoted to the position of chief instructor, signalling for British Rail.

Robin has also worked with the College of Railway Technology and as a consultant for Peak ICT, delivering signalling design training to most of the main signalling contractors in the UK. Most recently he was Network Rail’s professional and technical development manager, delivering both professional development for designers at all levels and training in the use of the new software tools being used in the signalling design arena.
