French rail operator SNCF and Swiss rail operator SBB signed a contract yesterday to strengthen their partnership in TGV Lyria. The agreement, which lasts for 12 years, will see the two companies develop their partnership in the high speed rail service between France and Switzerland.

TGV Lyria is a service brand used for TGV lines. Last year, Lyria’s sales increased by 17% compared to 2009 and achieved a turnover of €260m. Throughout the 20 years it has almost been in operation, Lyria has carried over 4 million passengers.

Under the new agreement, SNCF and SBB wish to give greater autonomy and responsibility to their joint commercial management venture Lyria SAS. 74% of this is owned by SNCF and 26% is owned by the Swiss company.
