First Capital Connect has this week announced that from 1st March 2011 it will be lowering the cost of parking at Luton Station.

The cost of a daily ticket will be £2 cheaper, from £6.80 to £4.80. The change in tariffs is being introduced to promote the opening of the station’s brand new £19m multi-storey car park. The car park, which opened on 10th January, offers customers an extra 729 spaces, 136 monitored CCTV cameras, and three wind turbines producing 10% of the power used.

Barriers open automatically for season ticket holders thanks to a number plate recognition system, while for casual users there are two pay points at the pedestrian entrance off the new footbridge. The new car park also features lifts to all levels plus 19 disabled and seven parent and toddler family-friendly bays by the entrance.

A monthly season ticket will be reduced from £115 to £85 and an annual ticket will be reduced by £275 from £1025 to £750. Existing season ticket holders will be offered a free extension to their ticket when they renew.

The Old Station Road surface car park has closed freeing up a vital area for a major regeneration of the Station Quarter.
