Translink NI Railways are advising that monthly season ticket holders for the Larne rail line will receive a 10% discount off their next monthly ticket purchased from 20th February as part of the Customer Charter Compensation scheme.

Mal McGreevy, General Manager, Rail Services explained, “Unfortunately, due to a number of mechanical engineering issues affecting mainly our older train fleet, a number of Larne line express services were cancelled during December and January.

“We want to provide the best possible services for passengers on all lines. However, we do acknowledge that this is not the level of service we aspire to and would apologise to all concerned. As we have fallen below our Passenger’s Charter service reliability target for the Larne line, our regular customers are now entitled to compensation.

“This is the first time in several years that the Larne line has not met our service reliability target. Our engineers are working hard to maintain these 30 year old trains dealing with many challenges in order to prolong their life so we can improve and maintain the high performance standards that our customers deserve. We nevertheless eagerly await the new Class 4000 trains which will start to arrive next month and entering service later in 2011 following an intensive period of testing, commissioning and training.”

Discount will be applied automatically to all monthly tickets purchased for Larne line journeys.

Larne Line annual ticket holders will also be entitled to a 1% discount off their next purchase for each month that the reliability targets are not achieved.
