Steve Scrimshaw was named as the Rail Business Manager of the Year 2010 at the Rail Business Awards. The prestigious awards recognise and reward excellence in rail business, technology and engineering.

The Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock UK Managing Director beat an impressive shortlist of five other hopefuls to claim the prize.

Katie Silvester, editor of Rail Business Awards sponsor Rail Professional said: ‘Congratulations to Steve on being named ATA Rail Business Manager of the Year at the Rail Business Awards – the judges were clearly impressed with what Siemens has achieved under his leadership. He was up against stiff competition with industry heavyweights Keith Ludeman, Peter Maybury and Colin S Walton also nominated for the business manager category, which is held in high esteem in the rail industry.’

The win comes soon after a recent string of successes for the company, led by Scrimshaw. In November 2010 Siemens won the coveted Golden Spanner for the Desiro Class 444, and in December 2010 Siemens signed a contact with Eurostar to provide 10 new high speed trains. Siemens has also recently received EFQM accreditation – the only Rolling Stock maintainer in the UK to achieve this.

Amongst his recent achievements, Scrimshaw led the team that launched the Desiro City train in the UK. The Desiro City is Siemens’ next generation concept for the UK – designed with the environment in mind, plus flexibility, safety and comfort.

Steve Scrimshaw said: “I am delighted and humbled to pick up this award, in the presence of so many outstanding rail professionals. Whilst I am proud to receive such a deeply personal award, I have to thank my team at Siemens who helped make it possible – without their highly skilled and professional support I wouldn’t be standing here tonight.”
