Services on the new Glasgow to Edinburgh, Airdrie-Bathgate link have been doubled to two an hour.

Rail chiefs plan a 15 minute frequency later this year. Trains made a welcome return to Armadale with the opening of the town’s train station on Friday 4th March after an absence of more than 50 years.

Says Ron McAulay, Network Rail director, Scotland, ‘It is immensely satisfying to see our hard work now contributing to tangible benefits for communities along the route. We are delighted to have played our part in delivering the new Armadale and the relocated Drumgelloch stations.’

The £300m link, built by Network Rail and funded by Transport Scotland, is already proving popular. Passengers can travel direct from Helensburgh on the Clyde and Milngavie, south of Loch Lomond, to Bathgate and Edinburgh in the east. The line includes 15 miles of new track. Three new stations were built at Armadale, Blackridge and Caldercruix.
