Melbourne’s Metro put Alstom’s latest X’Trapolis trains on its network at the end of February, 2 months ahead of schedule.

“The X’Trapolis trains are the safest, most reliable, and best performing in Metro’s fleet according to monthly performance data” explained Chris Raine, President of Alstom in Australia.

“Alstom is very excited to be part of the rolling stock renewal program in Melbourne. The more X’Trapolis trains that run on the network, the better the network runs.”

However, it seems Metro are having problems keeping the trains on the rails.

The X’Trapolis trains were designed specifically for the Melbourne network and host a number of new technological features which include computer-controlled traction, braking and safety system. Each train also has fully integrated CCTV passenger information systems.

The new train has six carriages and will carry up to 1430 passengers at a time. Alstom will also deliver another 18 trains for service on Melbourne’s Metro network throughout 2011 and 2012.
