Stagecoach continues to be one of the most punctual train operators in the UK at its South West Trains and East Midlands Trains franchises, according to latest figures issued today by Network Rail.

The performance figures, which cover the four-week period ending 31 March 2011, show that passengers are benefitting from improvements in punctuality.

South West Trains, which operates around 1,700 trains a day and is the UK’s most complex rail franchise, recorded a punctuality figure of 94.8%.

The latest figures also signify a further improvement on South West Trains moving annual average (MAA), which is now 93.7%.

East Midlands Trains remains the UK’s most punctual long distance train operator, a record that has been unbeaten since December 2008.

The latest results show that 94.5% of East Midlands Trains services ran on time during March. This is a year on year improvement and takes the MAA to 92.1%.

Brian Souter, Chief Executive of Stagecoach Group, said:

“These results are great news for our passengers and reflect the hard work of our people in delivering a reliable railway.

“We know the impact that external factors can often have on our trains and the service we can provide to our passengers. However, we will continue focus on running a right time railway and work hard to improve our performance even further.”

The latest National Passenger Survey carried out in Autumn 2010 also demonstrates that passengers are noticing the continued performance improvements.

Satisfaction with punctuality and reliability at South West Trains rose to 90%, whilst overall passenger satisfaction increased to 87%.

At East Midlands Trains, 87% of passengers said they were satisfied with punctuality and reliability, whilst overall passenger satisfaction was 88%, representing the highest ever level of satisfaction.
