With the launch of the new air-conditioned S stock trains on London Underground’s Metropolitan Line services this year, train drivers will be checking out improved features, controls and procedures on the new train.
Familiarisation will be considerably helped by the ESim© training program. Working with London Underground Operations Standards, 3DVSL created the ESim program which includes interactive desktop simulation. This allows drivers to train on procedures and possible emergencies from any laptop or desktop anywhere and at anytime.
The ESim models are built from actual photographs of the train. These are combined with advanced graphics technology to create a professional interactive 3D training environment. Starting and driving the train in real time requires drivers to operate the controls and navigate the signalling and track environment as they would in the actual train.
The station and trackside images are pixel perfect 3D representations of the actual place of work. There are no short-cuts; each simulation takes the same time as the same procedure in the actual train. There are no ‘check-boxes’ to tick, but operator performance is logged in real time and can be reviewed, replayed or re-trained at any time.
