RMT Tube strikes to go ahead – they say London Underground is ‘undermining’ their campaign

Listen to this article

The RMT has urged its members not to ‘swallow LU’s line that they are acting fairly’ in a letter sent to them by MD Mike Brown.

The RMT claim LU is ‘undermining’ their campaign to secure the reinstatement of sacked Northern Line driver Arwyn Thomas.

They say that the letter sent by LU does not say they will reinstate Arwyn should he win his Employment Tribunal.

The RMT told its drivers: “Management probably want you to think this, but there is a big difference between this and what they actually say. This is why LU has refused to promise that it will reinstate Arwyn if he wins his Tribunal case.”

Despite LU saying that they will reinstate Arwyn, the RMT aren’t happy.

They state that LU will only reinstate the driver if they are ordered to do so, which is a ‘much higher bar’ than him just winning his case.

The union says that LU ‘plan to get away with sacking Arwyn unfairly but not giving him his job back. No union worth its salt can agree to this.’

TfL have said the strike on Sunday will have ‘little impact on commuters’.

The suggestion is that the RMT are going ahead with the strike on Sunday as their strike mandate for Arwyn’s case runs out the next day.

So, it appears the strike on Sunday will go ahead. If you are travelling on Monday morning, you can find travel advice here.
