Dave has worked in the rail industry since 1975 and has been teaching children about the dangers of the railways since the 1990s, visiting schools and also teaching as part of Junior Citizen events, which promote safety information to year 6 children.

He has taught thousands of children over the years along with Mick Benson, who sadly passed away last year. Dave continues to teach children carrying on this vital work.

Dave Newell, MBE of Chiltern Railways said: “I am so delighted to receive this award for both myself and for Mick, who also put so much into teaching children about rail safety. I know that Mick would have been proud and that means a lot.”

Adrian Shooter, Chairman of Chiltern Railways said: “We’re delighted and proud that Dave Newell has been awarded an MBE.

“Dave goes out of his way to ensure that young people learn about the dangers of the railway and has visited thousands of young children through school visits. Dave makes a big difference every day and is hugely deserving of this recognition.”
