Train Operator Southern has been awarded Investors in People accreditation, demonstrating its ‘commitment to improving a business through its people, a premise supported by its vision of ‘Making Every Journey Better’ for both its passengers and staff’.

Southern’s Head of Organisation, Leadership and Behavioural Development, Zoey Hudson said:

“We are delighted for both our staff and our passengers. This recognition is testament to the professionalism and hard work of all our people across our business, which can only be a good thing for our passengers.”

To achieve accreditation, Investors in People assessors interviewed over 400 Southern staff across the business to gather evidence that Southern fully engaged its staff on topics such as recognition, leadership capability and opportunities for personal growth and development.

Southern’s senior management were also interviewed to ensure clarity and alignment on strategic goals and how these are cascaded throughout the organisation so that all southern staff have clarity on their day to day priorities.

Zoey added: “Amongst the organisational strengths identified by the assessors were our people’s passion for delivering a great service for their internal and external customers, and recognition was also given to our new line manager structures which have been set up to build more effective relationships between managers and their teams.

“We wouldn’t have achieved this external recognition if it wasn’t for the dedication and commitment of all of our people.”
