Safety systems and processes for the transportation by rail freight of chemicals and petrol at DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd have been recognised by the award of a SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment System) certificate to the company.

SQAS is a system used to evaluate the quality, safety, security and environmental performance of logistics service providers and chemical distributors in a uniform manner by single standardised assessments carried out by independent assessors.

DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd is the only rail freight operator who is approved under the scheme, which is used extensively in the petrol chemicals sector.

Compliance with the criteria that merits the award of a SQAS certificate immediately indicates to customers positive safety management procedures within that business.

Alain Thauvette, Chief Executive of DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd, said:

“The operation of a safe and reliable railway for our employees and customers is at the heart of what we do. We are pleased that our standards have met the rigorous inspection of the SQAS assessors.

“Continuous improvement is vital in safety management and we will continue to enhance standards across all parts of our business.”
