Scottish budget means key tests for transport

Transform Scotland have published a briefing setting out what the Scottish Government should announce in its Spending Review and Draft Budget 2012-13.

The briefing is available here.

Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said:

“The Government needs to put its money where its mouth is on climate change policy. It has been very quick to pronounce its legislation as “world-leading” — but not so swift at bringing forward the funding for emission-saving measures which would see its climate targets met.

“We’ll also be looking to see how the Government intends to fund Active Travel and rail freight.

“Last year the Government sought to cancel both the Cycling, Walking and Safer Streets (CWSS) and Freight Facilities Grants (FFG) funds despite both having a long track-record of delivering, respectively, better conditions for walking and cycling, and the shift of freight from road to rail.”

The briefing also contains comments on bus, rail, ferry and other issues which we expect to form part of the Government’s Budget.
