Rail travellers can now board the first trains to stop at Buckshaw Parkway following the opening of Chorley’s newest train station between Chorley and Leyland.

The station has been built specifically to serve the brand new Buckshaw Village, a development of over 4,000 residential properties, supermarket and doctor’s surgery being built on the site of the former Chorley Royal Ordnance Factory, where components and explosives were assembled for the armed forces, including the famous ‘bouncing bombs’ featured in the World War ll film Dambusters.

The project has been a joint venture between us, Chorley Council, Lancashire County Council and Northern Rail, with Government funding helping to create the new station, ticket office, waiting area and car park.

It provides much needed transport links to Preston, Blackpool and Manchester.

Jo Kaye, route director, said:

“We’re delighted that everything has run to schedule since work started in the winter and it was great to see the first trains stop at the station.

“It’s been a real team effort from all involved and the station will be a great addition to the rail services provided in Lancashire.”

The two-platform station, on the same Manchester to Preston line as Chorley station, is expected to accommodate 450,000 passengers a year and will be operated by Northern Rail.
