Listen to this article

On 14 October Russian Railways and STM – Service (part of Sinara Transport Machines) have signed a contract for the maintenance of their main electric freight series, Sinara (2ES6), which is produced by Ural Locomotives (a joint venture between Sinara and Siemens).

Under the contract, STM – Service is committed to providing the high quality services necessary for the maintenance of the 2ES6 electric locomotives (number 001 – 137) in good working condition. Five service sites are thought to open in response to the contract signing.

The Sinara 2ES6 electric freight locomotive was introduced in December 2006 by the Ural Railway Engineering Plant (Ural Locomotives is a joint venture between Sinara Group and Siemens).

It is equipped with a microprocessor control system, and electric engines that use asynchronous traction.

The locomotive will reduce energy consumption, reduce the need for non-routine repairs and lessen the necessity of overhauls in order to increase mileage.
