Stobart Group Chief Executive Andrew Tinkler’s contribution to the logistics and transport industry was acknowledged last night with the presentation of the Sir Robert Lawrence Award by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Tinkler was honoured with the Institute’s premier award, presented to an individual judged to have made a major contribution to, and raised the status and recognition of, the logistics and transport industry, at the CILT’s Annual Awards for Excellence Dinner last night.

Tinkler has spearheaded the company’s efforts to deliver sustainable distribution, industry-leading fleet utilisation performance, shifting freight from road to rail and campaigning environmentally friendly trailers to help reduce the number of lorries on UK roads.

In addition, the popular Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers television documentaries and the company’s dedicated Members Club have helped boost the public profile of the logistics and road haulage sectors.

Stobart Group has also led efforts to introduce young people into the ageing logistics industry with its new Logistics Apprenticeship programme.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is the pre-eminent professional body for individuals associated with logistics, supply chains and transport.

Its 20,000 members are engaged in freight and passenger transport operations by road, rail, sea and air. Previous recipients of the award have included Hilary Devey of Pall-Ex and Sir Brian Souter of Stagecoach.

Andrew Tinkler, Stobart Group Chief Executive, said:

“It’s an honour to receive the Sir Robert Lawrence Award from the CILT and to be recognised for my work within the logistics industry.

“At Stobart Group we strive to introduce innovation into the sector and to reduce waste from the industry as a whole.

“More recently, the Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers documentary on Channel 5 has helped to raise the profile of logistics and introduce the industry to a whole new mainstream audience.

“We’ve also just introduced a Logistics Apprenticeship programme as I believe it’s vital to get more skilled young people into logistics.”
