Passenger numbers on Russian Railways rise by 4.8%

According to the latest figures, 82.1 million passengers travelled on Russian Railways’ infrastructure in December 2011, a 5.6% increase over the same month last year.

73.4 million passengers were suburban commuters, (+6.5%), while long-distance passengers amounted to 8.8 million (1.4%).

Passenger turnover in December 2011 amounted to 10 billion passenger-kilometres, up 0.5% on the same month last year.

Overall in 2011, 992.4 million passengers travelled by Russian Railways, 4.8% more than in 2010.

114.8 million passengers travelled long-distance (-0.1%), while 877.6 million (+5.5%) were suburban commuters.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network in 2011 increased by 0.6% compared to the previous year and amounted to 139.7 billion passenger-kilometres.
