Edinburgh Waverley station’s Waverley Steps have reopened to the public after refurbishment.
Their reopening marked the end of the first phase of the project to refurbish the station’s Princes Street entrance.
The steps have been rebuilt and had escalators installed, with a steel and glass canopy also being built.
The refurbishment is part of the £7m contract to improve access across the station and will also include lifts being installed and a level walkway.
David Simpson, Network Rail route managing director for Scotland, said:
“The new steps will vastly improve access to the station for passengers, especially less mobile travellers. The refurbishment has delivered a modern gateway to one of the country’s oldest stations which is also sensitive to the heritage and history of the building and those around it.”
The Waverley Steps redevelopment was funded by Transport Scotland and the work was carried out by main contractor Morgan Sindall.
