Metro Vancouver’s Evergreen Line has taken a ‘major step forward’ after contracts were awarded for pre-construction of the elevated rapid transit project.

Pedre Contractors Ltd. will install new underground power lines in Port Moody and Coquitlam and Hans Demolition and Excavating will remove two vacant buildings in the area.

A primary contractor to design and build the line will be announced in the summer.

The total project cost for the Evergreen Line is estimated to be $1.4 billion and it is set to be operational in 2016. Funding is being provided by the Province of British Columbia, the Government of Canada and TransLink.

“Our government is proud to be a partner in the Evergreen Line project and the start of pre-construction work is great news for this growing region of Metro Vancouver,” said Minister Lebel.
