MAINTEC 2012 will provide maintenance and health & safety professionals with a valuable opportunity to be challenged and brush up on their skills at this year’s show.

From interactive hands-on challenges to personalised advice clinics, strategic workshops and insightful presentations, the event provides the visitors the chance to immerse themselves within the industry and learn something new.

MAINTEC has once again teamed up with leading health and safety training provider RRC to provide ‘state of the art’ training.

RRC’s computerised Stop the Hazard Game will highlight the importance of health and safety and why it should not be overlooked by getting visitors to identify and prevent hazards in a working scenario.

RRC hopes to show that accidents have risen because people on the ground don’t understand how to assess risk.

Gary Fallaize, Managing Director at RRC Training, comments:

“Poor management of health and safety leads to accidents and significant costs to any business. This is the perfect opportunity to brush up on health and safety skills for all those working in the logistics, distribution and supply-chain functions through to operations, plant and production managers.”

The computerised Stop the Hazard Game is all about spotting the hazard before it is too late. The interactive training will be displayed on a large computerised plasma screen where individuals will have the opportunity to complete certain activities and find the deliberate hazards.

David Towlson, Director of Training at RRC, explains:

“Participants have to spot hazards on four different topics as they progress through the game. There will be a ‘top-gear’ style leader-board, and the delegate who completes the game in the fastest time will win their company £500 worth of RRC Training.”

David continues: “Employers have an obligation to ensure that their employees are reasonably safe whilst at work. So, to accompany the game, we are also running a special ‘safety clinic’ – fantastic for anyone who wants to improve their skills and discuss health, safety and environmental issues which affect people at work.”

Also at the show will be maintenance recruitment specialists, Probe Recruitment, who will be running the ‘Job Shop’ at this year’s MAINTEC. The show floor feature will include a personalised CV Clinic and Interview Clinic to help visitors improve the skills needed to take that all important next step in their career.

Angie Cottrill, Senior Recruitment Consultant at Probe, comments:

“The CV and Interview Clinics will enable visitors to come along and sit with an experienced consultant to review their own CV and look at ways of improving it, and go through interview guidance, advice and dos/don’ts during an interview. We’ll also be hosting live vacancies so that visitors can have a look and see if anything catches their eye.”

Elsewhere, the latest maintenance ideas will be pitched to industry expert ‘Lions’ at a Dragons’ Den-inspired contest, in which suppliers will demonstrate their products and be judged by the panel and the audience, who will vote for the best product at the end.

Also making a return to MAINTEC will be the ‘Leak Detection Challenge’ which will be staged on the British Compressed Air Society (BCAS) stand demonstrating a mix of detection solutions.

BCAS experts will provide an on-the-spot estimate of what leakages are likely to be currently costing visitors. There will also be Compressed Air Advice Clinics for visitors with any compressed air queries.

The Grand Prix experience competition will also be taking place where visitors get the chance to test their driving ability in an F1 car and simulator with prizes each day for the fastest lap.

Furthermore, MAINTEC 2012 will include a programme of learnShops, free to attend for visitors.

There will be around 30 learnShops seminars running over the three days, with speakers from major brands such as Siemens, Schaeffler and Britvic, all revealing their secrets to help those visiting succeed in 2012.

Value driven maintenance experts, Mainnovation, will also be hosting a brand new free ‘maintenance business experience’ workshop on the 2nd day of the event, which will enable visitors to learn how to take their maintenance strategy to the next level and improve business efficiency.

MAINTEC 2012 takes place from Tuesday 28 February to Thursday 1 March 2012 at the NEC, Birmingham.
