The Indian Ministry of Railways and state government of Chhattisgarh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of three rail corridors covering 452 kilometres.
The East Corridor will run from Bhupdevpur-Gharghoda-Dharamjaygarh up to Korba with spur from Gharghoda to Donga Mauha to connect mines of Gare-Pelma block covering 180 km; The North Corridor from Surajpur-Parsa-Katghora-Korba covering 150 km; and the East-West Corridor covering a 122 km from Gevra Raod to Pendra Road via Dipka, Katghora, Sindurgarh.
The new rail lines will connect towns and villages and cater to the maximum number os passengers and freight in the state.
The lines will be developed through Special Purpose Vehicles or Public Private Partnerships, which will be granted by the Ministry of Railways.
Under the deal, the state of Chhattisgarh will contribute land owned by them as their equity for the project.
It will also provide environmental/forest clearances for the projects within a period of two years and the project will be completed within a period of five years from the formation of the SPVs.
