The first of a new fleet of 12 high-capacity Alstom trams has arrived in Lyon.

The Citadis trams, which are due to enter service in November on the T3 Line between Part-Dieu and Meyzieu, will take the city’s fleet total to 86, making it the third largest network in France.

At 42 metres, the new units are 10 metres longer than the current trams and will be able to carry up to 300 passengers.

The trams are designed and assembled at Alstom’s plant in La Rochelle.

To date, more than 1,600 Citadis tramways have been sold to nearly 40 cities in the world. The tramways have carried more than 4.7 billion passengers and travelled more than 400 million kilometres.
