Track system contract awarded for Doha tram project

RAIL.ONE is to install the track system for a new tram line in Doha.

The $412 million light rail system, which is being designed and build by the Habtoor Leighton Group, will serve Education City on the outskirts of the Qatari capital.

Under the contract, RAIL.ONE will deliver various models of the RHEDA CITY system, including a 15 km section with concrete cover and a short turfed segment.

Production of approximately 14,000 concrete sleepers is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2013, at the factory in Hail, Saudi Arabia.

In an announcement today (January 29), RAIL.ONE also secured an additional follow-up order as part of the Eje Atlántico (Atlantic Line) projects in Spain.

RAIL.ONE will supply its ballastless track system for three tunnels in around the port city of Vigo in northwest Spain.

Chief executive Jochen Riepl said: “In recent years, RAIL.ONE has taken part in numerous projects for expansion of railway infrastructure on the Iberian Peninsula.

“This new major order reflects the great trust placed in our reliable and high-performance ballastless track technology.”
