London Midland celebrates Project 110

London Midland has celebrated its Project 110 by naming a specially liveried 350110 Project 110 at London Euston.

The increase in speed from 100 mph has seen travel times slashed by over half an hour between London and Nuneaton, Lichfield, Tamworth, Rugby, Stafford and Stoke.

To gain certification for running at 110mph the trains had to undergo 200 hours of dynamic testing, including using space hoppers full of water to simulate passengers.

The whole project has taken 12 months from concept to delivery and the extra capacity that the higher speed brings means that London Midland can now operate two services at 110mph as opposed to just one service at 100 mph.

The naming was carried out by Bletchley driver Kevin Wiseman on February 27, who was the first driver to drive a class 350 at 110 mph.
