An order for 21 next-generation Stadler FLIRT EMUs has been confirmed by Serbian Railways (ŽS) at a ceremony in Belgrade.

The new fleet, which is worth around 100 million euros, is being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The vehicles will be delivered in two-week intervals between autumn 2014 and late summer 2015.

Peter Jenelten, executive vice president of marketing and sales at Stadler Rail, said: “We are proud that we were able to win this EBRD-financed invitation to tender.

“The new FLIRT trains will allow ŽS to set new standards in regional transport. And it is our first FLIRT order in South-Eastern Europe.”
